Articles and Manuscripts by Katie Lacey (1900-1964)
(reproduced here with the kind permission of Mrs. Helen Miller and Mr. Ed Lacey Jr.)
During her lifetime, Katie Lacey was much involved with the
study and documentation of the heritage and history of Osoyoos and its region.
She corresponded with many of her peers, and was a member of the Okanagan Historical
Society. A collector herself, she was one of the founders of the Osoyoos Museum.
Her text on the Osoyoos Museum (1963) is of course
silent on her own considerable contributions to the Osoyoos Museum. Until her
death in 1964, she led the team of volunteers in cataloguing the initial collection.
Her manuscripts and notes were donated to the Osoyoos Museum, and a Reading
Room in the Museum was set aside and named in her memory. An
obituary
was published in the Okanagan Historical Society's Twenty-Eighth Report (1964).
Through the Internet, the Osoyoos Museum now extends this Virtual Reading Room and hopes that Katie Lacey's lifetime work in the history and heritage sectors will provide a foundation for further research and exploration.
